Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Pastoral Care

Oasis Academy Wintringham is committed to providing the highest level of pastoral care, welfare and age appropriate guidance for all students. The primary aim is to offer a stable environment with a sense of security and belonging from which they can:

  • Develop their social, intellectual, physical and practical skills.
  • Participate in community life.
  • Become aware of the needs and feelings of other people.
  • Be prepared for their life after school.

Our Heads of Year are Mr Justin Hyldon (Y07), Miss Kirsty Smith (Y08), Mr Ed McUrich (Y09), Mr Ashley Whitely (Y10) and Miss Briday Peers (Y11).

Our Heads of Year work collaboratively with our Year Managers; Mrs Sue Carlberg/Mr Paul Leadbetter (Y07), Mrs Alli Kent (Y08), Mr Wayne Watson (Y09), Miss Kirstie-Rose Gilbert (Y10) and Mrs Jo McIntyre (Y11), to ensure all students feel safe, secure and happy whilst in and out of the Academy. These members of staff are the primary contact point for parents/carers.

To support a smooth transition from KS2 into KS3, we also have Mrs Dawn Castle (Transition Mentor), who works closely with our Year 7 staff team, liaises with and visits all local primary schools/Academies to ensure that all students feel safe, confident and excited about joining OAW.

The pastoral system reflects the overall ethos of the Academy which encourages students to care for themselves, work hard and consider each other, the community and the environment in which they live. Within a vertical (Year Group) tutor setting, student participate in an age appropriate programme, which incorporates SMSC activities and weekly assemblies.

Each student is also part of a Community House: Branson, Newton, Ennis-Hill or Rowling with regular opportunities to participate in diverse inter-House competitions and events. We believe that creating a strong sense of community belonging and fostering healthy competition ensures students feel happy and secure. Community Houses will also work collaboratively with their chosen local charities throughout the academic year. Our Community House Champion is Mr Steve Broderick.
